Latest book and update on writing

Author has published two previous anthologies. Poems with themed notes and Mists of Time which includes short stories. Poetry developed through competition entry and author having poems chosen for editors anthologies. A team of editors compiled anthologies with varied titles over a number of years. Poetry Treasures, The Ink Flows on, In Mind and Heart, The Great British Write off – Beyond Words. A short story – Station Encounter later developed into the now popular library loaned science fiction novel – Galactic Mission.

Galactic Mission by Sam Grant – a science fiction novel set in the 22nd Century. James Walters meets up with Adriana in a train station waiting room and this alien creature transfers James to another reality, while displaying how the earth is at risk from meteors. These galactic intelligences are also concerned about the governance on earth. James, is one of a group from across the world, who are also approached to assist.

Author’s poems were chosen from a wide range of entry. Eye of the Storm is a poem which was short listed from a large international entry. It was rewarding, for author to have his poems chosen for publication. Author’s first novel developed during a Craftyournovel writing group attendance, later in 2012.

Short Story, Verse, Commentary by Colin H Coles. Author’s birth name, where Sam Grant is a writer name adopted by author early on when writing commentary for a newspaper. Not in a professional way. The editor required that contributors offerred a name to be printed alongside their comment which needed to be a pseudonym and author chose the name Sam Grant. Subsequent novels, short stories and poems have been published under the name of Sam Grant.

In 2019, a manuscript of short stories, poems and commentary was prepared by author. After additional author contributions, from ongoing new short stories and poems a final manuscript was prepared at the beginning of 2023. Short Story, Verse, Commentary was then published in May 2023, in partnership with Paragon Publishing, Rothersthorpe.

Author has responded to reader review and comment, in a sense with this new book. It has been remarked that readers do not always have time to invest in the reading of a novel, but enjoy reading, shorter pieces where time can be pressured. Hopefully, Short Story, Verse, Commentary, may meet this reader interest profile. Perhaps on holiday or on a commute to work where fifteen minutes of reading time may be available.

Chief Editor Chris Robinson, at Sea Breezes, an international sea journal, requested, and has been posted a copy for review. Author has also received an enquiry from a library group about where Short Story, Verse, Commentary may be purchased? A copy was sold at the Frome Small publishers Fair in July. This enquiry about a book is a new phenomenon for author where previously messages and letters were sent out to possible interested groups, like magazines and libraries with a hope to acquire interest for latest book. There are now eleven book publications by author Not an overnight success situation! Remember a well, known entertainer remarked on TV that he had been hailed as an overnight success. After, he said – of fifteen years singing and entertaining in pubs and clubs!

In the ongoing writing field, author has completed a first draft screen manuscript for his latest action, mystery maritime novel – Chilling Encounter. Bags of enthusiasm for a photo of Houlder Lines, refrigerated cargo passenger – Hardwicke Grange – posted on several seafarer Facebook sites. One hundred likes!! Author has included https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0B5Y1JXZX , which is an Amazon Kindle location code in hope that interest may follow into buy of the paperback or Kindle edition? The ship photos attract most interest obviously, where seafarers’ served aboard a ship over a number of years.

Atlantic Hijack, author’s first maritime novel still sells at book market events author attends. A reader pointed out that there is interest for the “downstairs,” commentary effect. Observations given by those below stairs, so to speak, in the scheme of things? A second trip deck sea apprentice retell of events perhaps gives that perspective?

In the world of author’s novel writing a new novel is progressing. It does have a sea related content but the characters are more shore based. It’s fictionally situated and created in author’s birth town of Torquay.

Author’s novels can be purchased from good book shops. Please give ISBN. Online Waterstones offer print editions. Author’s Amazon listing does give photo details and author biography, but mainly promotes Kindle and Kindle Unlimited. This site is at URL amazon.com/author/grantsam
